The Postcard Project started in the summer of 2004 when I was the acting postmaster on a small island off the coast of Maine. All day I sat in a little room while the islanders came by to retrieve their mail. I sold stamps and postcards and read a lot of books. I saw all kinds of mail coming and going, but the most precious was always the letters and postcards. Everybody loves receiving mail.
I created The Postcard Project to encourage the love of "real" mail. In this technical age it seems that many people forget about the simple pleasures and affection of receiving tangible mail. This project asks it's receivers to "LOVE YOUR MAIL" while promoting the kind of art which does not need to be purchased in a gallery and hung on your wall. Art can be fleeting! Art can be disposable! Art can be cherished! Art can be mail! The Postcard Project is ongoing and continually growing with new members. There are dozens of senders and receivers all over the world. You can view postcards I have received on this site. If you would like to get involved in The Postcard Project, send me an e-mail at erinmay@eighteesbaby.com.
